FAQ

What Is the Difference Between General Tools and Special Tools?

General tools are tools that can be used for a wide variety of different jobs, instead of being designed for one specific task. The most common tools are all general tools; these include:

  • Claw hammers
  • Multi-bit screwdrivers
  • Levels
  • Measuring tapes
  • Many power tools, including most power drills

Specialty tools, on the other hand, are designed to do one specific task—and to do it very well. A perfect example in our line of tools is the CAMO MARKSMAN Pro® Tool, which is used to install fasteners through the edge of a deck to create a fastener-free surface.

What Is the Most Common Tool?

Determining the most common tool is almost impossible—there are a wide variety of different tools, all used for different purposes. General tools are more common than specialty tools—hammers and screwdrivers are likely among the most common tools, along with saws, sanding paper, and other simple, hand-held tools.

The most common tool also depends on what you consider a tool—going to the broadest possible definitions, levers and wheels might be considered tools (and thus very common).
